2018 Tiguan

The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

It's not easy trying to find a car that isn't compromised in some way. If you need the space, it's hard to park. You want fuel efficiency,
at the sacrifice of power. High seating position, sloppy driving dynamics. You get the picture. Short of finding a way to beat physics and cheat math, Volkswagen has the next best thing with its new Tiguan.
The name might be familiar along with the basic concept, but the new SUV has received a raft of significant upgrades making it not only the most stylish and modern car in the parking lot but a technically-advanced, practical and high-quality vehicle. How technically advanced? How about a super smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and powerful turbocharged engine! How practical? With seating for up to seven occupants, a commanding view of the road and rear-view camera across the entire range. As for the quality? How does a class-leading, fully-transferable six year/72,000 mile warranty sound?
The list of safety features is long but hardly tedious; safety is taken very seriously at Volkswagen and while three-point safety belts for every seating position, ABS, stability control and front and side airbags are expected as a minimum, the 2018 Tiguan goes several steps further. Its revolutionary Intelligent Crash Response System will, in the event of an accident that deploys the airbags, shut off the fuel pump, unlock the doors, and activate the hazard lights. Some might think it is over the top, but it serves to highlight a commitment to making driver and passenger wellbeing a priority. Additionally, the Tiguan comes standard with Automatic Post-Collision Braking System (not every crash will bring the car to a stop), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD) come standard, and lastly, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Monitor is available across the entire range. It's fair to say you can drive knowing you are safe and sound in the excellent and spacious interior.
On the topic of interiors, the Tiguan's is a perfect blend of flexibility and space. With the optional third row of seats, up to seven occupants can be accommodated in a cabin that is typical Volkswagen; high quality, cutting-edge, and functional. A height-adjustable, telescopic steering wheel that needs just 2.4 turns lock-to-lock means the driver has full control, and fully adjustable front seats make sure the driver is comfortable, too.
Passengers in the second row are well catered for with a huge 36.5 inches of legroom and air-conditioning as well, and with that sliding 40/20/40 bench folded down, you get between 65 and 73 cubic feet of cargo space at your disposal. App-happy drivers will be satisfied with full smartphone compatibility and a color touchscreen taking pride of place in the dash. With a range of high-quality interior trim choices, the new Tiguan really does cover everything you can think of.
Standard powered heated side mirrors are a thoughtful touch, as are the automatic headlights that have coming and leaving home functionality (with the option of LED headlights to accompany the standard LED daytime running lights). It's the little things that surprise and delight that sometimes make the biggest difference of all. If you thought getting the basics right was just that, basic, then consider the groundbreaking Volkswagen Digital Cockpit as moving the goalposts far beyond what you thought was possible. Personalizing your driving experience is made easy with four driving profiles able to be stored, and with the 12.3 inch display capable of also showing navigation, you will never get lost again. Unless that is your preference, in which case the Tiguan can help too.
If the suburbs bore you, and you just want to get away from the daily grind, the optional 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system has the smarts to keep you going when you go off the tarmac with the ability to transfer power between the front and rear axles as needed, depending on the conditions. The Tiguan's 2.0L turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder engine produces 184hp and makes for easy progress around the suburbs or in the wilderness. The seamless 8-speed automatic can do as much or as little as you like by offering a manual Tiptronic experience, making life comfortable or thrilling in seconds, but also helping achieve up to 27mpg; you'll spend more time driving than at the pump.
Is the perfect car a myth? Well, if you crave a car that can cater for the driver, the family, the accountant, the outdoor enthusiast and the technology lover, then you've found it, and it's not a myth. The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan will check all your boxes, so if that doesn't make it the perfect car, nothing does.
